In the year 2025, coming up with a name for your band can be harder than you think. What's going to sound really cool, but also fit the band itself? It's safe to say Brooklyn's own 95 Bulls found success in that department. Much like their namesake, the band stampedes right into your rotation. The musical equivalent of a bull in a china shop. Knocking you on your ass before you know what hit you.
This band demands your attention...and they'll fight you for it. I was lucky enough to catch them twice when they played Show Brain Fest in August and once again earlier this month. It was admittedly difficult to focus on my photography duties when they started playing. I wanted to dive into the crowd and start a mosh pit. The music just hits the same way a sugar rush did when you were 10. Despite sounding like a peak sugar rush in a Halloween store, (said with so much love) the band is capable of dialing it down and taking softer steps. The songs "Feeling Small" and "Lovesick Hero" off their recent album Canadian Nightclub showcase this skill perfectly. 95 Bulls is not a one and done band and their album is not a passive listen by any means. If you crave the chaos, and need to blow off some severe work week steam, you should find a 95 Bulls show near you. If you can't catch them (because you are a coward) you can still see some of the members in action! You can see guitarist, Matt, in his other band, Certain Death. Their drummer, Zach Butler? Well he's in a little band called The Mystery Lights.
When 95 Bulls played Show Brain Fest last month, I was able to have them answer our questions amid the chaos. As a note, the "Bill Murray Christmas movie" is Scrooged. After reading the answer I felt insane, because I somehow could no longer remember the name. I wonder if she knows Dodger in Oliver and Company was voiced by Billy Joel....
Anyway, take a look at this!
